I'm the Franchisee in Windhoek
My name is Michelle Havenga
I am a mother of 3 kids. I currently do craft lessons at pre-schools and kindergartens, and work on a school-based term, offering 11 classes each term (one term is 4 months). Each lesson I instruct is about 30min, depending on the number of kids attending.
I take my clay and all related equipment needed for the daily lessons with me to the schools. I then take kids in groups of 10 or less and instruct them on how to make for e.g. a pinch pot. I let the kids do the pinch pot on their own, and help them where help is needed. The older kids I let them decorate it as they would like to. And then I take the crafts made at the schools, home with me to be put in the kiln. I do the whole week and then fire all the crafts at once.
When the crafts are fired, I then take them with me to the school again the following week, with the paint and brushes and we decorate them with bright colourful colours and glitter if desired.
Under each craft I put each child’s name and school so I know which craft belongs to which child.
I usually do 4 lessons per month. I strive to show that art is not about to produce a picture-perfect result. But to foster a fun-filled environment of creativity and freedom.
At month end I send out an invoice with the crafts made by the kids so parents have an update on their account.
I also do an assessment at the end of the year to asses each child individually.
Why choose us?
There are three pillars that our lessons stand on:
- Creativity Development: With over 26 years of creativity development experience, a book written about it, and our program designed in conjunction with the President of Creativity SA, we believe we are at the forefront of this game in South Africa.
- Fine Motor Skills Development: The clay gives the small hand muscles a workout like nothing else, combined with correct pencil grip with the paintbrush and we’ll have your child “big school” ready in no time. Many other extramurals focus on gross motor skills, and we believe that should be used synergistically with our program.
- Fun! This is probably the most important part of our lessons. Yes, we can provide lots of value to the child but it will be lost on them if they aren’t laughing, singing and making jokes during the lessons
